Studies with Landscape
This original artwork is a piece of paper with studies drawn on both sides: on the recto , horizontally, there is a landscape with trees in pencil and an inscription in ink partially erased in Latin “ melium est ”. On the verso of the paper, the drawing is composed of six different subjects drawn in ink and pencil. The work was realized by an anonymous artist of the first half of the XIX century. The state of preservation is good, except for some spread stains and a darkened margin of the paper.
This enchanting artwork shows a natural landscape, whilst the subjects, spread throughout the surface of the paper, differ from each other and present a Neoclassical style, following the taste of the artists of the epoch. This is probably a piece of paper torn from a sketchbook.
Overall, the drawing is very interesting, pleasant to the eye, fresh in the content, realized by a masterful hand in drawing.
