"Nicolai Ivanovich Fechin (1881 - 1955) was active/lived in New Mexico, California / Russian Federation. Nicolai Fechin is known for Portrait, figure and genre painting, wood carving." So this is a portrait. And he did many pencil type drawings which were portraits from which this etching could be made. He worked in the first half of the 20th century so that fits with your description. I have looked at many of this artists signatures. The first initial on your etching appears to be an "S". I have seen one of this artist paintings in which the first initial was an "H". Shapiro auction of Oct 20th, 2007 oil on panel sold for $15,000 premium not included Shapiro stating this painting on panel was the work of artist Nicolai Ivanovich Fechin even though first initial was an "H" . With premium over sold for over $18,000. I have seen one in which the first initial looked like a "V". Doyle New York sold a drawing listed as drawn by Nicolai Ivanovich Fechin in which the first letter in the signature appeared to be a "V" was sold on May 23rd, 2006 for $5,500 dollars. In the signature on your piece that last name is very close to the the signature of Nicolai Ivanovich Fechinhe exactly the way he would usually sign his signature letter for letter for the last name "Fechin". Another piece of this artist sold at Christies in London I believe for 2,291,250 pounds on 24 November 2019. The "N" for first initial appears as a "M". I rest my case here. This artist at least a few to several times messed up his first initial in his signature on his art work. If he is going to mess up a the signature on a $3,000,000 dollar painting one of his master pieces then who cares about a little etching. Why is all this important. Well, first of all his work sells period. Even his lithographs and one I know has sold for $3,000 recently. This being a an original print signed by the artist should make it more valuable than other lithographs where multiple copies were made. It is a small print. So I am thinking if I am right about the artist then this print is worth $1500 to $2,000 at retail and half those amounts at auction unless say Doyle of New York or Shapiro auction houses would be interested then the retail prices might apply as final bid.
