The artwork represents a portrait of a standing male figure: Gabriele D'Annunzio (Pescara 1863 - Gardone Riviera 1938) was an Italian writer. He was one of the most important exponents of European Decadentism. As a very learned man, he demonstrated an unlimited talent to assimilate the newest literary and philosophical trends, re-elaborating his own refined writing style.
Mino Maccari (Siena, 1898 – Rom, 1989) was a popular Italian painter and engraver. He produced many artworks through different graphic techniques. He exhibited at important international exhibitions in the fields of art and graphics. In 1959, he became the director of the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome; in 1963, he won Antonio Feltrinelli's prize for painting and became president of the San Luca Academy. He realized many lithographs and etchings of satirical and political subject matters. He was also famous for erotic and sexual drawings. He has worked for many years at Il Mondo .
