Pierre Auguste Renoir

(Limoges,France,1841 - Cagnes-sur-Mer,France,1919)
He was a French artist, also Known as the painter of femininity, he can portray incomparable female figures. And then, he became a leading painter in the development of the Impressionist style. The famous English art historian Herbert Read has said that “Renoir is the final representative of a tradition which runs directly from Rubens to Watteau.”
Renoir was the first Impressionist to perceive the potential limitations of an art only based on optical sensation and light effects. Actually, in his productions, he doesn't forget the necessity of composition and underlying structure in modern painting, achieves in his mature work a structured, monumental style that acknowledged the strengths of High Renaissance art.
