A couple of adults and one of children, all dead or in agony, lying on the ground for starvation, provoke the desperation of a poor hungry man who brings his hands on his face. The effects of hunger, visible in the skeletal incision of the extremities, have produced this terminal situation. The pathetic nature of the scene has been reinforced by Goya presenting these destitute people in the middle of a desert, far from the charitable centers of the cities and other types of aid. With the background obtained from the aquatint burnishing, the impression of a dawn is created, that poor people will never see.
