L'asino legge l'asino   is an excellent sketch realized by the great Italian artist Gabriele Galantara   (Montelupone, 1865 - Rome, 1937) in the first years of the XX Century, Galantara  was a journalist and one of the greatest Italian caricaturists and satirical designers.  In 1886 he made his debut in print as a draftsman, publishing under the pseudonym of Blitz.  Podrecca and Galantara, now well-known names in the journalistic field, were invited to Rome in 1892 by Luigi Arnaldo Vassallo to work for the newspaper "Il torneo", of which Vassallo himself, already known under the pseudonym of Gandolin, was the director. In Rome, coming into contact with various socialist, republican and anarchist groups, they had the opportunity to implement the project of their own newspaper. They entitled it «L'Asino» ("The Donkey"), with reference to the motto of Francesco Domenico Guerrazzi: "Like the people is the donkey: useful, patient and ... beaten".
