Beautiful lithograph depicting an enchanted castle in the middle of nature. In the center of the castle we find a large spiral staircase that climbs towards the top. The atmosphere is fairytale and fantastic: this is the Berthe's castle, the queen of Chartres.

This work has been realized by the French painter  François Alexandre Pernot ( 1793-1865). In 1824, he  travelled in Scotland for the first time; he then presented the drawings inspired by this trip at the Salon of 1824; they were reproduced in lithography by Bonington and other artists, and published as a set entitled 'Vues pittoresques de l'Ecosse, d'après nature' with a text written by Amédée Pichot.
