Fine quality and elegant portrait depicting a male figure watching the observer. The work has been realized by the florentine artist and painter Michele Gordigiani (Florence, 1835 - Florence, 1909). He dealt with the genre scenes and historical-mythological framework, the young artist always devotes himself more frequently to portraits, a genre that will bring him fame in Italy and worldwide. At the Academy's Annual Exhibition, in 1854, he presented two male portraits, still tied to academic schemes. Since 1855, he frequented the Caffè Michelangiolo with his brother Anatolio, a place where artists who will give life to the Macchiaioli movement, to which he adheres with conviction to new artistic research. Here he becomes friends with Giovanni Fattori, Telemaco Signorini, Diego Martelli, Cristiano Banti and in particular with Angiolo Tricca, becoming one of the animators of the group of innovators, which often meets in his studio.
