The artwork represents a portrait, with strong lines, scratches through black brushes, which created a serious look, skillfully twisted lines with a master's touch.

Willem van Hasselt  (1882- 1963), was a Francais artist. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam, Camille Corot has a lasting influence on his painting, in the early 1910s, he became friends with Édouard Saunier (1885-1918), with whom he exhibited for the first time in 1911, as well as with Jacques Salomon, nephew of Édouard Vuillard. Van Hasselt then enters the entourage of Vuillard, also frequenting Maurice Denis.
