Gosekku no Uchi Konkuwai  is a wonderful color xylograph on paper, realized in 1849 by the Japanese master  Utagawa Kuniyoshi  (1798-1861).

Original Title:  Onnagori Goshiki no Hanakago .

This colored xylograph represents a beautiful portrait of Konkuwai, a very popular Japanese character of the Kabuki theatre, a sort of old fox disguised as a monk.

Original Title: Onnagori Goshiki no Hanakago .

Japanese ideograms are printed along the margins. In very good condition.

This colored xylograph represents a beautiful portrait of Konkuwai, a very popular Japanese character of the Kabuki theatre, a sort of old fox disguised as a monk. 

This character is at the center of the work "Kotoba no hana momiji no yozakari" , represented at the Ichimura Theatre in Tokyo on September 13rd, 1849. On the occasion of this premiere, this splendid print was made. the actor Nakamura Utaemon played the role of Konkuwai with the melody " Onnagori Goshiki no Hanakago". Indeed Konkuwai is the name of one of five holidays of the year.
