Plan de la Nouvelle Orléans
Plan de la Nouvelle Orléans is an interesting black and white lithograph on paper, realized in 1880 by an anonymous artist.
Original title: Plan de la partie de la Nouvelle Orléans où se sont passés les évènements du 14 7bre 1874 .
This original print is an illustration for an article in French La Conquete Blanche for the newspaper Le Tour du Monde and is a toponomastic map of the city of New Orleans, theater of the Battle of Liberty Place, or Battle of Canal Street: an attempted insurrection by the Crescent City White League against the Reconstruction Era Louisiana state government on September 14, 1874. Five thousand members of the White League, a paramilitary made up largely of Confederate veterans, fought against the outnumbered New Orleans Metropolitan Police and state militia.
A historical piece to collect! In very good conditions, except for a visible yellow stain on the higher left corner, this beautiful modern artwork is mounted on a white cardboard passepartout, cm 24 x 30.
On the back, another illustration portraying the general Marc Enery and realized by E. Ronjat. On the back, visible worn margins.
