This is a preparatory study representing a lion and three lionesses in typical feline postures and attitudes, realized with a fat pencil and with incredible freshness of the lines.

This modern artwork is in very good conditions, except for a usual yellowing of the paper on the edges.

Wilhelm (Willi) Lorenz  (Germany, 1901–1981)

Wilhelm Lorenz, also known as Willi Lorenz, was a German painter specialized in paintings of animals typically hunted as a game. His highly detailed oil paintings evoke the texture and movement of animals like boars, foxes, buffalos, and lions, depicted in their natural habitats and attitudes. His artworks resemble the works by Max Josef Hänger Lorenz. Willi Lorenz attended the Düsseldorf Academy of Art before moving to Cologne to start his artistic career.
