Alberto Magnelli (1888-1971) was an Italian painter. He was an autodidact and in his studies, he focused especially on the Tuscan painting style of the 14 th and 15 th century. In 1914, he met A. Palazzeschi, G. Apollinaire, M. Jacob, F. Léger and P. Picasso in Paris. In the same period, he realized mostly still-lifes and extremely simplified compositions, as well as his earliest abstract artworks, characterized by vivid and flat colors. In 1931, he moved to Paris and dedicated himself exclusively to Abstractionism, based on a rigorous synthesis between contraposition and interaction of curvilinear and rectilinear forms. Magnelli is among the most important exponents of contemporary art. A relevant nucleus of his artistic production is preserved at the Gallery of Modern Art in Florence.
