The artwork represents a central shape on a total white background. Al Bengston is best known for his use of aesthetics of American motorcycle culture of the 1950s. His colorful works feature mandala-like shapes with imagery derived from symbols, chevrons and flowers. Silhouettes of flowers appear prominently in Bengston's paintings. In the 1960s, he often painted a single flower, placed in the center of the canvas. Bengston has often used the industrial tools of custom car makers, like spray paint and laquer on aluminum sheets.

A very delicate print to collect jealously!

Billy Al Bengston (b. Kansas, USA, 1934) is an American sculptor and artist who lives and works in Venice, California and Honolulu, Hawaii. In 1948, he moved to Los Angeles with his family and he studied painting with Richard Diebenkorn at the California College of Arts and Crafts; in 1956 he returned to Los Angeles to study at Otis Art Institute. In 1957, he started working with Ferus Gallery, a legendary contemporary art gallery operating in Los Angeles from 1957 to 1966. He held several presentations at important museums such as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. Bengston’s artworks are included in many permanent collections including the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Honolulu Museum of Art, the Chicago Art Institute and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
