Wonderful etching and aquatint and drypoint on ivory colored paper. Titled on plate.

Plate N.38 (on the higher right margin), from the famous series Los Caprichos  by Francisco Goya. First edition of 1799. In very good conditions.

Passepartout included : 49 x 34 cm

The image of donkey has an unquestioned character, representing allegorically the ignorance of the privileged class. In this artwork, the donkey, listening to the melody played by a monkey, is the beneficiary of the art.

Meravigliosa incisione che ha come soggetto indiscusso l’asino, chiamato a rappresentare allegoricamente l’ignoranza delle classi privilegiate. L’asino è intento ad ascoltare una melodia eseguita da una scimmia, è dunque il fruitore dell’arte.
